You didn’t ask me Alban, I have the portuguese title, I am 15 overall and 2nd ranked manager for portuguese league! I am still in top at my league, even playing much less now! It’s a bit difficult to improve in overall ranking because our league has less games (good for international competitions, bad for money and points).
My team only gets 220k income for sponsorship, and 110k for merchandising… I have outstanding performance from my board, and I receive a lot of messages with good results from the board, this is due to the low expectations they have :) like this season (the lowest expectations ever):
League expectation: Stay in division
Cup expectation: Reach the round of 16
International expectation: Reach the round of 16
My stadium has 46200 seats and I really would like to get more sponsorship :) too!!!
And by the way, check those teams stadiums lol it can’t be 10xseats or the cap is not working lol

Maybe it is possible to count two different analysis:
Squad comparison should take player skills in consideration, and that should be the factor for the results expectations, or does a player achieve better results in the match engine depending on it’s value?
The second ponderation should be the finantial results, depending on the squad value, player wages, stadium or departments (investment in the club) a manager might need to trade players in a regular basis, and there are managers with more skills for this than others.
A practical example, my board expectations are:
League expectation: Middle in table
Cup expectation: Reach the round of 16
International expectation: Reach the round of 16
This means my team is clearly underrated, I keep fighting for the title and cup every season and my team has the best portuguese results in the international competitions in the last 4 or 5 seasons (well, this season portsmouth was very lucky in the first round, let’s see what happens in the second round).
I’m no hell of the managers (at least with this match engine :) where everything is possible) but I already won the title at match 27/30, there are 10 points between my team and the second best!
The point is I know this difficults other teams, I saw the message good result when I achieved a 0×0 away with other team… As you said he (the other manager) got the opposite message, I know him, he has a top squad, true, but the comparison based on player value gives him a big disadvantage because his players worth M and M of $ and my players don’t!
He has tons of $ (always more than I ever had lol) and he trades players on a regular basis, so he manages well the $ part and his club can afford top wages, but that’s a disadvantage for the board expectations!
Maybe the board points can be distributed between both parts with two systems, skills and finances…

I think this matter is well driven, I agree with most of people!
Please, arrange some time to give us a SQUAD BENCH too!!! I’m a bit tired and frustrated with the cpu always moving my (only) 90 defender to friendlies… Since the begin of this season he (only 90 I have, defender) is (un)officially my sub for friendlies, and he’s doing such a great job I even moved him out of the A team because of his stamina…

I’ll be short I promise…
I believe to understand why scouts will evaluate our own squad, so scouts can value something, but I don’t see any logic in it! Coaches should do it, and should be more expensive too…
I totally agree with luís and henrique, 100% is perfection and requires loads of money, the game must remain KISS.
So, about costs, to me scouts should be less expensive and more generaly available to every 1st 2nd division team, the hard part is to acquire them and no scout will solve that. 100K
Physios at 100% for 300K is at reason! My perspective is to avoid top departments to everyone for no more than short periods.
Finally coaches, they should also evaluate the squad, be more expensive… 500K would sound fair to me.
I am sure even at 900K that managers exist to pay this amount! Not me for sure…
One thing worries me, will players still have limits? I know they had, with coaches will the biggest clubs appear with all players around 90-100 skills?

iPhone has a Safari browser, javascript enabled. Flash is not compatible but it is expected to be in future, java is not compatible and it’s not on apple plans (that’s why I expected the match replay not to work).
I think the problem has to do with the interface, in iphone and other devices with small touchscreens you can move the screen (web page) zoom in and out, what happens is that when you select a player in the formation screen and move him to the field, the screen moves with the finger gesture and I will never be able to carry a player to the field unless there is a way to lock the portion of the web page behind…
Perhaps there is a way to do that but so far I don’t know how to :)

Sorry, be easy on my words :)

The drag and drop players feature is not possible…
The match replay feature is not possible…

The transfer page shows as I see it in pc browsers, the team player page is also fine, I had negotiated contracts with my players, but I tested both contract and loan and it works, the drop down boxes (type of transfer/squad associated to match) pop up a list with the available selections to choose, it’s very easy to navigate in ruby!

The drag and drop feature doesn’t work, which was a bit disappointing, but I understand that it might not be compatible due to the zoom feature of the phone, in opposite you can zoom in transfers or player page easily to check players in detail and come back to the whole page…

About the match replay, I wasn’t expecting to work, the result was the expected…

I took 3 photos of the transfer and player squad page, if you’d like to check it. The bright is not the same as looking at the display but it gives the idea.

Perhaps gabriel and danilo could decide to give full support on ruby to cell phones (it could be an interesting idea).

If anyone wants more tests just ask, it’s a new toy, I have the time for it now :)

Or do it like in the real hard world…
If a player has a contract with a club the first part is the transfer amount, like an awktion. Allow managers to bid higher transfer amounts! After 3 ticks the biggest one or ones are opened to negotiate the wage with the player…
For free transfers wage is everything…
This way the seller team will suffer less $ damage, and it’s probably the way it is supposed to be.

How does the offside detection work?
I saw the first half of the match replay in detail, and it seems that a player offside is clearly detected, except for my opponents first goal :)

1) You can see “Campelo” and “C. De” position, “C. De” is inside the area almost facing my goal keeper, far away from all defenders, this happened at minute 6:30, even F. Vito is offside, only Beaudoin is inline with the defenders!
2) I had a few offsides checked and confirmed, all detected by game engine, and in my goal at minute 38:50 my strikers are inline with defenders (just like beaudoin), a clear goal!
Can the game engine miss offsides detection or is it just a bug?

Yeah, thorpedo is right! The Formation Strategies page always shows the default formation, so if you want to change your other formation strategies now, you have to set these formations as default to access their strategies…

Well, a friend of mine picked up a team and quited because he couldn’t understand how to play… I disagree, the game can’t be that confusing but it was his opinion, and he was serious!
Perhaps the starter guide, a beginners assistant, a manager for dummies, would help…

About the: leagues would have just a few matches, so you could end up with long periods without official matches;
As I suggested: two rounds in season:
- Two rounds would be more competitive, a team would play their biggest opponents 4 times instead of 2;
- Lower teams would receive more money as they will receive top teams twice at home (tickets).

I’m not feeling confortible with a reset, at least yet… I went through a lot since season 1, I know I asked for it, I started with the worst team of Portugal and probably one of the worst in the game and it’s good to see what my team achieved!

But if a reset is what everyone feels for then let’s move on to the future… The economy model is matured by now to level things from beginning :)

In case of “future” I have my own opinion (as always so here’s my new testament), I checked the game and this is current situation of Countries/Game/Nº Managers:
Brazil – Fast 26 – Medium 21
Argentina – Fast 5 – Medium 3
England – Fast 20 – Medium 14
France – Fast 7 – Medium 7
Germany – Fast 8 – Medium 9
Italy – Fast 16 – Medium 11
Portugal – Fast 22 – Medium 10
Spain – Fast 22 – Medium 12

Considering as objectives:
Increase number of leagues (expecting a more appealing game/increase of managers)
Decrease number of cpu teams (expecting decrease of wasted cpu work/less abandoned teams)

It looks to me that a better approach than cutting second leagues is to level leagues in all countries, and to decrease the number of teams per league, like 10/10 to first/second and two rounds in season! This way you could duplicate number of leagues and maybe increase competition too, slightly penalizing three leagues (it’s not the end of the world, ruby survived one reset since I play it…)

You could also implement it in a way that it would be possible to increase the number of teams without resetting!!! To 15, then to 20 in case of full game… Maybe this is hard work but it’s easy from where I stand :)

Before any reset I also think there are some priorities pending:
- Mature Game Engine (a lot);
- Mature managers/teams rankings (youth generation):

  • Points with bonus criteria like 1x to division 1/0,7x to division 2, 1,1x to cup, 1,3x to UEFA/whatever is the name of the respective cup in south america, 1,5x to champions/whatever is the name of the respective cup in south america;
  • Points for infrastructures (stadium development, whatever appears);
  • Points for player acquisitions (players values, earning/loosing points with squad value);
  • Points with players development as this means creating value in game.
    - Retirements, players decreasing skills/less injuries;
    - Mature board;
    - Mature Formation Strategies;
    - The newspaper.

I don’t see new contract clauses as priority, cpu is not very clever in ruby and all players have a cpu mind…

I’m tired of writing and no one os going to read this far so…

I don’t agree with files for donators, what I think is that it’s a good service to have the files as an extra paid service, available for anyone (paid).
It’s no advantage (what ruin!!!) to receive the files by mail instead of log in and copy/paste, except for the time, and time is money, this is a point where ruby can score some extra $, though I believe only 16 people might really be the target of the service…

In the portuguese league we have the same problem, about half the teams have managers working in the same place, or for the same company, we live with it since season 1 and it would be nice to trade with each other… And fair is not what you said, you probably know that we had a few overpower teams, they released a lot of players for 5K, free, whatever, with unrealistic wages, it would be fair for us to trade in these cases too.
Fair is to stay in negotiations minimum 3 ticks, and if a good player is sold under his real value, at least cpu teams should be in if not other managers :) everyone will have 3 ticks for that!

I completely disagree with any kind of paid advantages to anyone. The trade offs should be in game, more money in game, scouts, rules to generate scout reports. That’s the way of a free game (if that is the way).
I believe we have server problems because too many new leagues were implemented at the same time, and now we have lots of free teams to overload the server, but that is another story. If we want to help, besides donating, advertise the game, more players, more donators too. (I know this is the hard way too… Sorry Danilo/Gabriel.)
The special delivery is a good idea too, pay to receive the transfer lists in your e-mail with schedules saves the time of coming in game and generate them, it’s not a real advantage, and gives you more money. As long as you send 8 files like the ones possible to generate in game with copy paste…

Well, I think we already have the “Anyone injured”, divided by goalkeeper/defender/midfielder/attacker, which is good because depending on the injured player position we can create a rule to replace him with another player belonging to the same position, and keeping our formations.
The problem with the red cards is that we can’t keep the same formation, we have to adapt to the forced circunstances. I was giving my intention as an example but I was trying to achieve more flexibility in my suggestion, in my case I choosed to spare an attacker to replace a red carded goalkeeper/defender/midfielder, but these options vary from manager to manager, from formation to formation.
That’s why I proposed a Red Carded Attacker, Red Carded Defender, Red Carded Midfielder, Red Carded Goalkeeper, in a way that we can choose which player leaves the game, which player enters the game, to the same position the red card happened, these could also be a new check option in the existing red card events.

I tried to adapt your suggestions but it didn’t work very well :) what I need to do is a bit the opposite of the suggestion, I want to replace a specific player (an attacker) in case of any of the other 10 gets a red card, this part is ok, but I need the new player (the one in from the bench) positioned where the red card happened, so that i can keep the formation, sparing the position I choosed to replace (the attacker).
I really think this would be usefull to keep our formations, and the generic options would help, at least, we would gain more flexibility.

I started using formation strategies and noticed that replacement by injury explicitly goes to the same place where the injured player was, GREAT! What about red cards? I want to replace an attacker for my red carded goalie, defender or midfielder by another goalie, defender or midfielder in the same position the red carded player was. But this is not explicit and I am afraid (very afraid) the player will go to an AI setup option!
Is it possible to have options for this? Like Red Carded Attacker, Defender, Midfielder, Goalkeeper just as the injured (if the AI setup option applys)…
Also I think it would be good to have some generic options, like less skilled or less valuable or slower player. Imagine selecting one of this generic options combined with other features, my idea is in case of a red card replace the less skilled attacker on mentality 0 by the best goalie, defender or midfielder to where the red carded player was! And not forcing an exact position (or zone or mentality) like the A LC 0 (my option)…

I don’t know exacty how it is counting, but assuming it is by team results, manager points should take a bonus by the type of competition, like Champions League x1.3, second division x0.7, first division x1, etc…
And stadium improvement should count for manager points, it is a manager option (investment) and the result stays in the club (number of seats), with a considerable effort ($).

I was checking some results all the way back to season 1 and 2 and I noticed that my team is loosing players in the older match reports.
In some games I still have 10 players, others 9 and I found some with only 8 players! In the very first reports I have two players! Could this be from retirements? (Just guessing…)
