Who says you get nothing on our anniversary? I tried to deliver more but I didn’t have enough time, sorry guys! I am planning one more pack of improvements soon. But here is what we have today:

UI
- Better checkbox alignment/appearance

Formation Strategies:
- More generic condition (RedCard/Injury on any player)
- A match action can be specific to a home, away or just apply to all types of matches
- Can edit an existing strategy
- Can create a new strategy using another one as template

Individual Tactics:
- Implemented first draft (will activate those on our match engine very soon)
- Still not too graphical, but already can alter the position of a player during
an offensive / defensive situation

Other
- When accepting a friendly, can already select the wanted formation

Hi there!

I started my career in RubySoccer a few days ago, and today I had my first young player promoted to the main squad :D

The new youth player generated to replace him is a goalkeeper, but unfortunately my youth squad already had two players in this same position, so now half of my young squad are goalkeepers!

Maybe it would be nice to have a “position balance” factor in the youth player creation algorithm, as youth squads play a important role in the game.

Anyway, RubySoccer is getting better and better! Excelent job!

PS: anyone interested in buying a goalkeeper? :D

I think it is very realistic to have Brazil as a top player factory… Indeed!

We have finally decided to not spend more time to improve the look of rubysoccer on internet explorer 6, for the following reasons:

1) IE 6 is an awful browser from the technical perspective and require tunings that no other browser requires
2) IE 6 number of users is dropping daily
3) We understand that about 20% of our users use this browser by choice or by the lack of, but RubySoccer is already usable and bareable on it – and our commitment to guarantee that this continues to be remains
4) With that decision we will be able to use more of our free time on improvements that would impact 100% of our community

I hope our IE 6 users understand and we apologize for any inconvenience. Anyway, the site doesn’t look that uglier in IE6, does it guys ? :)
cheers!

Today is a great day for RubySoccer. It all started 1 year ago, a single dimension with 4 countries was all that we had. Every other tick would get stuck due to bugs in our match engine, players processing and many other places. We didn’t have many users, but your suggestions and alerts about bugs helped us improve the game and get to where we stand today.

Now we have 184 users spread in our 2 dimensions with 8 countries each, international competitions, player, team and manager history, match strategies, manager and team rankings, coaching and physio departments, bankruptcy, manager performance evaluation, player loans and lots of other enhancements. And there is much more to come!

Nothing would have been possible without the support from our users. I just wanna say thank you to all of you guys, specially the ones that are here since day 1. Let’s grow this game together and have a lot of fun!

Cheers!

Fair enough, I’ve fixed that :)

Leagues are the only competitions where we save the champion at the end of the season instead of doing that right after the last round. We’ll change that.

Cheers!

Hey, I won the league championship with Torino in slow ticker in season 6… I left AFTER all the league games were completed (but before all the friendlies were over). Francisco Campanacho took over and it lists HIM as the winning manager??? That’s not right!!!! I took that team to the title, not him!!!! :)

The coefficient idea is interesting and is a possible solution for the current unbalance. Adding more south american countries, well probably you’re right, it would make the competition more interesting in South America. The thing is, our system should work when we have ALL european and south american countries, then it will be like 10 SA x 50 EU but the competition should be pretty good. The number of clubs participating is dynamic in South America, but starting in the third place, which we don’t have yet ;)

I’m still confident we’ll be able to add more countries soon. Let’s see.

Thanks for your suggestions Alban, we’ll discuss that and maybe implement a temporary workaround to make this more balanced.

Well I am going to be the first in this forum, I need a goalkeeper, with more than 82 in keeping and less than 20 years. Please send me a message in the game if you are interested in selling.

So, European teams don’t have a chance against Brazil because of the competition, but isn’t it unrealistic ? Only strong competition should make strong teams. Why not implement coefficient ? For example, playing against clubs from strong countries will have a 1.+ point coefficient, but playing against Argentina (or another very weak county) will multiply your points by 0.7 or something like that.

I believe that it can also be good for game balance to add 3 more South American countries to make it 5 against 5. At first Brazil will dominate, but countries #2 and #3 in SA will also produce good youths and maybe managers will migrate from Argentina nad France there =)

I agree you are right saying that the lack of managers has a huge negative effect on the game balance, but maybe at least increase the number of clubs participating in CS and LA for Brazil and decrease this number for Argentina (not 10 v 10 but 14 v 6, dynamic numbers…)

But the country score is the average score of its teams, not the sum, so it doesn’t matter how many international places a country have. In some cases it may even be worse to have too many teams if some of them are not strong enough to score points on international competitions. What really makes the ranking unbalanced for Brazil right now is the lack of managers on Argentina :D

Cheers!

I understand your point. In Europe is a round more. But in Europe there are maximum 7 international places (4x CL and 3x UEFA) and in South America there are 10 international places (5 Lib. and 5 Sudam.).

So in South America you can in general earn more points. So they have a big advantance for youths, etc…

So is this system balanced? I don’t think so. Now with the same points system South American teams can earn more points in general (all together).

Another thing to add in our game help :)

We’ve changed the point calculation system when we decided to unify the country ranking. As Champions League and UEFA Cup have one round more than Libertadores and Sudamericana the european teams would have the chance to earn more points than south american teams, unbalancing our ranking.

In the old system, a victory was worth 2 points while a draw was worth 1 point and there were some 1 point awards for advancing to another round on some competitions, so a team that qualified for the first round and won all matches in the competition would get:

22 points on Champions League
21 points on UEFA Cup
17 points on LA
17 points on CS

The idea in the new system is that the maximum points you can get in each competition is the same, 100, so we mapped the 1 point in the old system to a different value depending on the competition in this new system.

old system → new system
1 point → 100 / maximum_points_in the competition

For Champions League: 1 point → 100 / 22 = 4.545
For UEFA Cup: 1 point → 100 / 21 = 4.762
For Libertadores: 1 point → 100 / 17 = 5.882
For Sudamericana: 1 point → 100 / 17 = 5.882

Hope this helps.

It is. In the average there is a 3 point difference in each skill if you compare youths generated in the best positioned countries with those from the worst positioned countries. Let me give you an example (I’ll add that to the help later):

Consider a defender youth generated on the best positioned country. If you don’t consider the random factor, these will be youth attributes and improvement potential in parenthesis:

tackle = 70 (20)
passing = 60 (20)
shooting = 60 (20)
speed = 70 (20)
dribble = 70 (20)
control = 70 (20)

For the worst positioned country you just subtract 3 from these values, the potential is the same, +20. Remember that the player may not reach his maximum potential if you don’t have a good coaching department. A level 4 department for instance should be enough to unlock half this potential. With the random factor, the same player could look like this:

tackle = 68 (18)
passing = 64 (10)
shooting = 58 (25)
speed = 72 (18)
dribble = 72 (10)
control = 64 (12)

Hope this helps.

I noticed there was a big change on the way the points a team earns in international competitions is calculated.
Could someone explain me the new system?

Is it possible for the weaker countries to get players with 90+ stats at all ?

Correct, coaching help players to improve faster and to reach higher skills. The limit for coaching level is 10. Without coaching the players will still improve, but slower and it is likely they will reach their maximum potential with lower skills. For now they only improve playing matches, but we may change that in the future.

For a more detailed explanation about coaching and physios you can go to our game help.

for what I understood the young players can grow more with a strong coaching team… right?
what is the limit for the level of the coaching team?
And they only grow if you invest in coaching team? Can they grow without that and without playin?
My team is very young and I want to see them grow much as possible :)

Youth’s quality is based on the country’s teams international performance throughout the seasons and the team’s division. If you look at the country ranking you’ll see that Germany is not well positioned, so this is the reason. If the german teams starts to perform better on Champions League and UEFA Cup the generated youths will gradually get better.

Cheers!

i’m absolutely pro “stars”. They should be given not just to players with great stats, but also with qualities like
- ~10 years in the club
- team captain/ important for team building
- show biz qualities/ “beckham”
- etc.

So in the end merchandise & sponsorship should depend on a certain level on the amount of stars in the team.

I think it is a good idea. But I would like like it to be some kind of “hero status”, earned by the players for great performance (best goalscorer, safiest gk’s, hardest tacklers, hat-trick heroes. Because some players with good stats perform worse (maybe because of managers). This will make players more unique, now they are all alike
