I noticed that transfer also, as I had Davila on loan at the time :)

I agree with thorpedo.
The price paid for Davila was a little high, but OK.
And no one is spending 21 million to bump a keeper rating by 1 point. That’s crazy!

But if the CPU team could just sell me their backup keeper, I’d be very happy…

and yeah… I know it’s easy to think this stuff up.. and a whole other problem to implement it! and I really don;t know where you draw the line on complexity vs. fun to play…

but, so far, so good!

I also think it might be nice if the boards had a known level of expectations. Something easy like: “low”, “medium”, “high”. That way, a manager that just wanted to manage a single team for a long time could pick a “small club” with a “low expectation board”. But a manger that didn’t mind getting fired could get a “high pressure” job with a “big club”.

I also am intrigued by Simon M.‘s thoughts about having other manager-less teams seek out new managers. I think that idea has great potential. It would really “soften the blow” if a manager was told: "You’re FIRED!!! (but teams X, Y, and Z would really like to hire you…) "

That’s a WHOLE lot better than “you’re fired”.

OK… I have a few things to say about this topic.

First, I’ve never been fired. (yet!) But if I was, I wouldn’t be too upset by that. As stated, in real life, LOTS of managers… even REALLY GOOD managers… get fired. I would think MOST managers get fired at some point in their careers. So I think it should be an expectation that you will get fired here eventually. BUT… I think everyone here should be TOLD to expect that it may happen. That way, it’s not so big of a problem when it does happen. To me, that part is just a communication issue that needs to be made clear to all the managers.

I worry about that, because I find some mangers get fired… including really GOOD managers… and they don’t come back.

For instance…

I much prefer fast ticker. But I figured… I’m here… and I started on medium ticker… so I might as well play medium ticker. When I came back to medium ticker I played Arsenal for a while… but I didn’t really improve them. Things happen SLOOOOWLY in medium ticker. I moved to Fiorentina… a good team with some nice younger players. But again, I didn’t feel like I was making anything big happen there. And I noticed a team above me was not managed. Torino. I looked at them… it was a terrific team. Eventually, I decided I’d manage Torino, as they’re already good, and I wouldn’t have to do too much to keep them good! (and honestly, managing them is EASY!!!)

I looked at their record before me… the manager “Andre CML” was fired… his record:
season 1: Champions Serie A
season 2: runners-up Serie A
season 3: runners-up Serie A… WON CHAMPIONS LEAGUE
season 4: FIRED turn 43 (9 games into the season)

I picked the team up after the midway point of that season… and finished third.
The team was in OUTSTANDING financial condition when I picked it up (most money I’ve ever had!!!)

But I am completely FINE with him getting fired. In real life, the top teams have CRAZY expectations. My Torino board expectations this year: League, fight for title… National cup: reach the final… International cup: reach the final (Champions league!) So far I’m doing OK, but I know eventually I’ll fail.

So I think it’s FINE if the manager gets fired. But it needs to be explained to ALL the managers when they join here, that stuff like this WILL happen. They should EXPECT it. I know I’m now always looking for my “next” team. And I think that’s a good thing.

So… what bothers me???? “Andre CMLNEVER picked up another team, and hasn’t logged in since April 20.

We LOST a really excellent manager!!!

We need to tell him he is appreciated, and that we’d like him to return!!! (and that no matter how good he is, he might get fired again)

Hugo, I was having the same problem with the subs in friendlies…. CPU always picking the best attacker or mid or def… so set up a sub!!!

Pick a guy you don’t use much, and make HIM the sub for any injury to a D or M or A. Just set it up in the “formation strategies” for your reserve lineup (or whatever you call your friendly lineup).

BTW… I’m OK with whatever you want to do with the individual tactics. I mostly would like to pick who takes the penalty kicks.

I’m at the point where I start to cringe a little when I see we’ve gained some new managers. Because I’m wondering if they’re “real” new managers and that they might do some dumb stuff accidentally. Or even worse… they’re “fake” new managers, doing bad stuff intentionally.

I don’t want to feel bad about getting new managers!!!

I’d also like the “values” for players needs to be tweak to better represent their true value.

I like the idea. I’m not sure how it will work… maybe it might need to be “tweaked” a little as we go along… but you guys have been great about making changes. So, I’m all for trying it.

I’m not suggesting we use those exact parameters… but something like that. Maybe something easier?

core less than 80… any price.
core 80-84… 90% of value
core 85+… 100% of value
age 34+… any price.

the first line should say:
core rating, less than 80, any age, can be sold for any price

Minimum selling prices need to be tied to the player’s ability, not just an abitrary % of his “value”. The “board” needs to make better decisions about minimum selling prices!

*
core rating <80 , any age , can be sold for any price
core rating 80-84, age 16-19, can sell for 100% of value
core rating 80-84, age 20-30, can sell for 90% of value
core rating 80-84, age 30-33, can sell for 75% of value
core rating >85 , age 16-33, can sell for 100% of value
core rating any , age 34+ , can sell for any price

“core rating”
KPG for goalie
TAC for defenders
PAS for midfielders
SHO for attackers

Hugo, are you able to drop and drag players in the lineup page on the iPhone???

Do the “transfer” pages format correctly?

Does the team player page format correctly?

I tried a bunch of phones (Verizon USA)… including BlackBerrys and other “web enabled” phones… none could do what I needed to do on Rubysoccer. I finally gave up and got a cheap Moto phone.

Henrique absolutely did NOT cheat. And I don’t think the Fulham manager cheated either. The problem is that some BRILLIANT players went up for sale, from a quality Premiership team… and hardly anyone knew about it… and they were sold for an insanely low price. In “real life” that does not happen. And while this game does not, and should not, behave in a “real life” manner at all times… this is one time where I believe it should more closely follow a realistic expectation. Those transfers are completely legal… but completely against what the spirit of this game should be. And the game needs to be amended so that something like that can’t happen again. It puts even great managers like Henrique in an awkward position. That shouldn’t happen.

It sort of ridiculous when a team buys a player for 12,000… then puts the guy he replaced on the transfer list at 10,000,000. And I am NOT saying that manager that purchased the “cut price” Fulham players cheated… far from it. He was just doing what he should do according to the rules. I’m just saying something is WRONG with that. There needs to be some sort of rule here. Clearly. Plainly. Obviously. The premiership is now basically a forgone conclusion. And I’ll be moving to a different team shortly.

Not sure if you’d call it cheating or not… but there is a brand new manager in Fast ticker, England… Fulham… and he is selling top players for very low prices…

Does anyone here access Rubysoccer with an iPhone or BlackBerry or some other web enabled cellphone?

If you do… please tell me what model of phone, your cell provider, and how it works for you. (or doesn’t work for you!)

I really want an iPhone… but I don’t think it will run java… so I don’t think Ruby will “work” on it.

Thanks.

ex-managersim for a couple of years. Won an FA cup in fulltest (I think…) with Wolves… from 1st division yet! Did get them up into the premier, and competitive… but tough to crack the top teams there.

Was Amiens in… Eurotest?… finally developed some really good keepers in that game… figured it out towards the end there. Maybe just because the better managers were leaving.

Joined here early… and left. Wasn’t loving this game initially. Came back after a while… and MUCH better now. And continuing to improve.

FWIW I really like fast ticker… but having problems developing the love for medium tick.

I logged on this morning to find both dimensions are still updating. Looks like the medium tick “bar” is nearly completed, but stopped. The fast tick is in “update”, but the update “bar” hasn’t even started.

I like that you guys listen, and have development plans already… and are willing to make changes. I joined the game early on, and left. I wasn’t happy with the game. But I checked back, and found it has improved nicely, and seems to be continuing that improvement. I don’t know why you’re losing managers though…

Yeah… I have a really old guy… but he’s pretty good… so I re-signed him because I know his attributes won’t go down… and he does get hurt all the time now. And I think that IS a good compromise solution. I just can’t play him all the time. So, he’s become like a “super-sub” and I kind of like that.

You are clearly not the only one that feels that way. I feel I am the only one that feels the way I do. But I think its worthwhile to consider the idea that “free isn’t always good” and “free isn’t the only fair way” and “maybe relying on charity isn’t such a good idea”.

Because free is not good when the game dies.
And just because a game doesn’t cost any money, doesn’t mean it’s “fair” to everyone… and just because a game charges, doesn’t mean it’s unfair.
And charity isn’t working. It didn’t work in the past… and it’s not likely to work in the future.

I’d also like to consider the idea that spending lots of time online searching for players does NOT = “good manager”. And get to the idea that managing your team, managing your salaries, managing your tactics and formations, managing your player development, managing your TIME… those things make for a good manager.

Honestly, I don’t think they’ll charge for any sort of list. Also, I don’t think it would make a big difference if they did, or not. But, I think it’s an idea that MIGHT be worth pursuing.

Anyway… I’ve said more than enough about for now.

Cheers

Danilo, I think I’ve had 3 or 4 different types of messages… but I didn’t keep track of them. I’ll start to do that, and let you know. I also want you to know that the load times and connection rate is generally MUCH better than Managersim was… I am not complaining!

Can you create a transaction list?… like you’d find in a newspaper. It would show the all the transfers, free transfers, released players, loans that happened in the last tick. It’s good to see what the competition is up to!
