No, for a good reason: this new layout is responsive. There are still a few problems, but in a near future the whole website should work on a mobile device (after logging in using your mobile device, try the “full site” option).
I took a little bit of time to get used to the new menu, but after that time I ended up finding it better. Lets see how it goes, do let us know how it feels for you.
We have a brand new look & feel, along a number of other changes – too many for me to mention. This is the very first iteration of our new look & feel, so THERE WILL BE BUGS. We also had major upgrades and changes in our infrastructure, so this cause issues with ticks & etc. Please report the bugs as you find them, and be patient. We also would love to receive suggestions and feedback! Enjoy!
To those who love our current look & feel: you better take some screenshots. It is all going to change, and very soon.
What happened exactly, northstar, and in what order?
While we work on new functionalities, we have also decided to dedicate some effort to fixing some of the bugs we believe have been plaguing the game and annoying some people. We are also counting on you guys to report bugs! If you don’t report, they might take much longer to be fixed.
Bugs fixed today:
- User signup failing (without the user knowing why) when chosen login was too long
- Statistics: Name and Team fields auto completion (its working again)
- Press releases: now the user is informed why its creation failed (if it failed)
- Newspaper article suggestions: this hasn’t been working for a while. It now is. We know the newspaper needs a lot of work, and it is on our list. Right now its not a top priority, but it will be done guys
- Mobile match report not working in certain situations
The negotiation functionality has made its way to our RubySoccer mobile website, and our hardware & software infrastructure has gone through upgrades. According to our service provider this should increase the website’s performance (any feedback is welcome).
you never cease to amuse me, Davison…
Agree the game needs new features, but we do think the mobile UI is one of them. Now that we have the basis to expand on, as we implement new stuff we can add functionalities to the mobile UI as well.
Don’t worry, other features are coming.
managersim has its perks, but we’re confident we have the right plans in place to catch-up with managersim in the areas where we feel we need to. after we do that, I think there’s space for both in the market. Davison, the game is not dead, its just going through a quiet phase – partially due to managersim. but we are sure the main reason was our long inactivity. this is something we intend to fix.
On the contrary! Both me and Gabriel are committed to being as active as we can be. The last weeks have been challenging, as Gabriel is on holidays and I have some family visiting – but we will definitely be back afterwards. I am sure you noticed we’ve had some changes recently – like the new Mobile UI.
RubySoccer now has a Mobile website!
This is a beta/preliminary version, so it is rough around the edges and it doesn’t have all of the functionality we would like it to have, but we’ve decided to release it to you guys anyway so we start getting some feedback and suggestions. Please use our forums to talk to us about it!
Definitely, the button has already been implemented. It will be at the bottom of the screen for the desktop version, and for the mobile version a couple different places.
we’re not going to have absolutely everything on mobile, but I think it will help to at least have the most used functionality, so people can manage these bits and pieces on their phones…
when you go to your players, what kind of stuff you would normally be looking after? I suppose availability for the next match would be the main thing, in your case.
Im aware of that, it was a concious effort – specially when it comes to the formations screen (drag and drop took some work).
Tablets will keep using the normal website.
This is about mobile phones only. Right now the site is hard to use on an iPhone for example.
Hey guys, if we were to make rubysoccer available as a mobile website as well, what functionalities would you like to see in it? Divide your suggestions in day one vs “the long run” if you can, please…
For our “day one”, I thought I would start simple, and base our content on our most accessed pages. In other words:
I’m almost done with the above, and I think it would be useful to release it before adding anything else.
Well, it doesn’t take a lot of time to fix this sort of thing, using poedit … Last time I spent something like 20 minutes to bring the pt-br translations up to speed. If you have some time I can send you the latest file for you to have a look, Filipe :D
should be working now – provided you add a security exception to your java config. will take care of the need to do that later too…
When reading our logs, I’ve noticed some of you were having issues seeing our manager achievement pages and creating press releases. Those 2 things should work now.
The translation missing errors should be fixed now, Hopjes. Please let us know if you see any other issues.
regards
Hi Hopjes,
If I got what you’re trying to say right, there seems to be something strange going on with your browser cookies. Try hitting ctrl-shit-del and then clearing cookies & cached images + files from “the beginning of time” (that’s the way chrome describes it anyway).
If you have successfully logged in using any method (facebook / google / normal) and then come to the website via a link, it will display that message – saying that you’re already logged in. I suspect you logged in and then came to RS via the email link…
As for the “database php” errors, rubysoccer is not written in php… In fact, its called rubysoccer because its written in ruby, and it uses the ruby on rails framework. Also, the error you see is not a database error. It is related to a specific translation rubysoccer is not able to find for a specific informational message – and it is trying to find it based on the language you’ve set on your browser (nl-NL in this case). Moreover, this specific translation is provided by the framework itself, not by us…
Anyway, all of these tech details aside, thanks for reporting this. I will have a look. And hey, thanks for giving us a week to investigate it before leaving, you’re very generous… ;D
yeah, pretty sure its because of the www. Greasemonkey / the script is configured to run on a particular page, and this script has been configured to only run in the www version of the rubysoccer site! I think you might be able to manually include the non www version by configuring the script in greasemonkey…
Hi Dimitri, where is this script? I will have a quick look, maybe I can fix it in a couple minutes.
Please start using rubysoccer.com (without the www) to access the game. There are still some things to be done to fully transition to that url everywhere, but we’d like to have a single and shorter way of getting to the website to simplify things. Right now if you try the www version, you’ll be automatically redirected to the non-www version.
This is not going to make a huge difference, but I’ve improved the way message contents is handled. When you respond to an user’s mail, you should now not see a lot of pollution in the text (html tags).
I’ve fixed the messages, posts and hopefully the tick now. For the tick I will need to wait to confirm.
This is definitely the biggest pack of changes in years. Though we did our best to test everything, bugs are expected. So please be patient and report.
- Upgrade of the framework and libraries rubysoccer uses to their latest versions
- Due to the upgrades to the most recent and powerful javascript libraries, we won’t support Internet Explorer versions < 9 any longer (please use a decent internet browser)
- Added link to monitored topics to forum
- Added link to my posts to the forum
- Upgraded facebook/google auth functionality to their latest (google for instance deprecated the support for our prev approach by the end of april/2015)
- Upgraded bugzilla to its latest version
- Fixed all bugs that were preventing our Admin area from working (this is for our GMs). Still need to discuss some of the new aproaches that we will use to detect cheating
- Latest Portuguese Translations
To those using google to login into rubysoccer: this is not working at the moment. Google has phased out the API we used to do this. I have already implemented the replacement, but need time before applying it to the server. Meanwhile, use the “I forgot my password” link to create a password for you, and you will be able to login using your email.
Hi there, have you tried to do some research on which teams are the “least leaked”? Maybe contact the manager of that team and ask him to come here to the forum and give his two cents ;)
Just upgraded all of our software infrastructure. This shouldn’t make much difference to you users, but please let us know if you experience any problems.
