I wish we had more users/managers. Many leagues already full of AI teams. Just look at Italy supposed to be strong league for example. When we have enough users then new countries can be added in the future IMO.

Major League Soccer (U.S and Canada) is a professional soccer league based in the United States and sanctioned by United States Soccer Federation (U.S. Soccer). The league comprises 16 teams, 15 in the U.S and one in Canada, which is scheduled to become 18 teams by the beginning of the 2011 season. MLS represents the top tier of the American and Canadian soccer pyramids.

On the 2nd division, there is the United Soccer Leagues (USL) which is the parent organization for the men’s lower division leagues of U.S. and Canadian soccer. They hold 10 teams. There is also the North American Soccer League (NASL) which is a professional men’s soccer league in the United States and Canada. Forms part of the second tier of soccer in the United States and Canada league pyramid along with the USL First Division, behind Major League Soccer in the hierarchy. NASL currently has ten teams comprising former clubs from the USL First Division, the USL Second Division, plus expansion franchises. The inaugural season is expected to begin play in April 2010.

18 + 10 + 10 = 38 total teams.

I’d say we could add 2 from the 3rd division and make it two winners of last year’s 2nd league divisions (who cannot get promoted or relegated, yeah weird) go in the first divisions for 2 equal divisions of 20 teams? Or simply one league? We could run this multiple ways. I’d be happy to provide you with what you need after you tell me what you’d like to have for the North American scene.

Hello,

I’m an old player of Soccersim and have decided to come back to Ruby Soccer to give it it’s fair shake. When I first played this Sim a long time ago, what really threw me back was the unrealistic perfect stats some players have achieved.

How often in real life would you consider someone to have a 100 shot ability? Or a 100 tackle ability? Or the ever coveted 100 pass ability? It doesn’t make much sense in having so many players achieve perfection.

I spent the better part of the last hour looking for a team to manage and I stood back, mouth open at some of these players that some of my fellow managers have gotten. What is the point of searching for a better player when you’re practically set for multiple seasons with such a player?

All I ask is strong consideration to do something about these players achieve max stats. There has to be a way to limit these guys to the low to mid 90ies, with RARE players getting above that 95 mark and if so, only in their prime.

Thank you for reading this.

Definitely I need this improvement. With arrange friendlies at season begining I have set my default formation to friendlies. And have set (by hand) all official games with my official formation.

The problem is that cup league just show future games after you win the last one and I have played my semifinal with a very stupid formation, so I loose 19×0! and my director board ration has dropped from 100% to 81%.

Could you please implement 2 options of formations: one for official games and another for friendlies?

Thanks

lets not go back… lets not do that… lets improve on top of current engine

“We could move back to the old engine while things don’t get fixed, if that’s for the best.”

Gabriel, the match engine improvement themselves are relatively fine based on general consensus…I just think that it needs further improvements.

You can send it to admins at rubysoccer.com

If you could make it 20 clubs for switzerland (we’d have only 1 division) and 40 clubs to the other countries (by picking clubs from lower division in real life) it would be great.

Thanks in advance.

Let’s keep the match engine like it is now. I agree I had strange results and a lot of ties but also in RL the best team doesn’t always win.
.
We better evaluate the new match engine when all the planned changes are finished.

I would propose :

sweden (32)
belgium (36) (they are 35 clubs there but we can add one from 3rd division)
switzerland (26)
greece (34)

then more & more step by step

A little fix could be make striker shooting more than middlefielders. It is awkward see my middlefielders shooting as much as my strikers

i also agree. current match engine is more realistic than the previous one… i think the issue is about fine tuning the current setup…

Thanks Gabriel, now than i know both dimensions are same logic…… oh well i think i suck as manager. Only i can think is than, maybe, in FT goalies are better than MT…..
I ’d like to wait for the hold package.
I just dislike the idea of goalies as the MVP of many games, and not from same teams.
Anyway for now, GETA & VILLA will try to keep the fight up.
And i agree, if you want the toughest league today in RS, you just have to join LA LIGA>

Buen Year!!!!!!!

i think you should keep the game engine. is much better than the old one. despite the problems i have to make a good tactic after the changes…

So far we officially know that speed is almost as important as keeping for keepers, the rest is just speculation. Off course its not really good to reveal too much that can kill the fun but we have no idea how sophisticated game logic is.

I just hope just adding the skill total of a player doesn’t determine how well he performs but the role you assign depending on players strengths.

For example tackling being most important skill after passing when you put your mid in M -1 zone. Passing being important when your defender is on D +1 zone etc.

As for your example, i would take player A since he is perfect shooter and not really lacking too much in other skills.

Ok, he is good but take a look at Barichello (Torino) when you don’t have the money to buy this one. ;)
He is a great goalkeeper and I will consider every reasonable amount.

compare these two strikers (from tackle to head)

A 80 85 100 90 87 87 92 (621)

B 85 70 88 97 96 95 90 (621)

Which player do you think should be the better?
In real life, I think player B is the better one.

Play A can only really function only if has a midfield that can set him up nicely to take shots. He can hardly make something on his own because he lacks enough pace, dribble, and ball control to get past defenders on his own. He is a finisher and that;s about it. He will rely on wingers for example, or on making the 30 meter shots.
Player B, lacks shooting, but with those kind of secondaries, he has a much higher chance to take the ball and put himself in scoring positions where shooting skill won’t matter much. He is a chance maker.

In midfield the thing gets more complicated. Other than secondaries, midfielder should at least be able to either tackle, or shoot, other than passing. That’s why (secondaries aside) an 87-92-83 (tackle, pass, shoot) is better than a 77-100-77 midfielder.
In addition, the tackle quality should depend on the dribble quality of the opposing player. For example, a 75 tackle can perhaps have the same success on 80 dribbler, as a 85 tackler has on a 92 dribbler (just a supposition)

As for defender’s passing, generally speaking, they make the easiest passes (passing sideways to one another or to a free mid). In RL defenders have usually above 80% passing ratio. Midfielder passing stands between 60-80

iPhone version ftw :)

Ruby is damn slow for the backend processing (right marginais?), it would be great if some logic could be moved to another language to speed things up ;)

Danilo wanted to integrate bugtracking, forums and more in another platform, I don’t know how much he has worked on this aspect.

Finally, as far as my very sporadic contributions are concerned, there should be a new version of the match replay written in Flash (which should look smoother / prettier too)!
(Gabriel: gzip + bytecode all that crappy match replay input format, thanks!)

Wish you all a great new year!

I kind of agree the midfielders and defenders scoring is not a bad thing but it will make more sense if only players with high shooting or heading scores regularly. Same goes with other statistics. Its common to see defenders with poor passing having high passing success or midfielders with poor tackling having high tackling success. The problem i think is the supporting skills have too much weigh determining players performance in these areas .

We should all live with some unlucky results but luck almost always favors the weaker sides. You would like to get lucky also when your team is dominating making most of your chances and winning by a large margin. Right now this rarely happens and almost all games are tight.

hmm… no worries gab, at least from my side :) i am doing pretty much better than the season before… ( last season was also better compared to before…;) )
although sometimes i feel for strikers…, but i don’t want to be those strikers to be as good as they were before the updates, it is good that midfielders are getting more shots in, but they are all becoming christiano ronaldo… may be that should reduce a lil bit, not too much… … apart from that i kind of like the match engine updates… i wouldn’t ask you guys to change it drastically, i think a lil bit of fine tuning would be more preferable… i think we are heading in the right direction :)

but then… purpose of this thread was actually to divert attention from match results and let the guys get some broader view of management… Not just a team but looking at the championship as a whole… but seems i pretty much failed there :)

The player left message comes with an explanation (unless we forgot some situation, but I don’t think so). The contract may have ended, the guy who bought may have fired the player, the player may have missed too many official matches, your coaching level was reduced below the level agreed in the loan contract…I think these are the only options I can think of :)

@DaMaGo: the logic is the same for both dimensions
@Nirabdha: Danilo is currently flying to Australia, it should take him 1 or 2 weeks to establish and have some time to work on RS…I’m feeling pretty well, already got back to my regular job so I should be back to RS soon

I think I am one of the few here who actually thinks the latest tweaks in game engine are good ones. Of course, Gabriel and Danilo have yet to implement the complete package, but I like what I see and looking forward to the rest

1. Strikers are not scoring as much as before! While many of you dislike this change, I do find it great.
-Before the changes excellent strikers could average 2 or 3 goals per game. We had strikers in the main leagues scoring up to 100 goals a season. That’s HIGHLY unrealistic.
-After the change, the midfield to great extent, and the defense to a much smaller extent, are being involved in scoring. That is Excellent and Highly realistic. At the same time, the strikers have not become dead wood, instead, they are scoring at rate strikers are supposed to score as in real life.

Valencieness Statistics in FT in 21 games so far
Strikers 20 goals (54%)
Midfield 14 goals
Defenders 3 goals

Premier League Stats in RL season 09/10
Team________GS_____GM_____GD
Chelsea_____19_____18_____3
United______22_____15_____3
Arsenal_____19_____22_____7
Liverpool___23_____10_____3
Total_______83_____65_____16

Basically: Strikers score 50%, Mids 40%, Defense 10%
Instead of relying on just 1-2 super strikers, now the whole team matters :)

2. The weird results
Like many here, I have had my share of shitty scores, in complete contrast with the performance on the pitch. All the weird results have been against me.
3 away games for Valencieness
2-1 (8-22 shots)
2-2 (6-18 shots)
2-0 (6-25 shots)

2 home games
1-1 (31-3)
1-1 (23-11) this one is acceptable

However, these scores are not the result of the latest changes. They have been a commonality before it. Of course, it needs to be fixed asap, but again, it has been here all along.

3. Problems from watching the replay
-Players running toward the goal, all alone and no defenders in front of them, stop, get caught by an opposing defender from behind a lose the ball.
-Players in the same kind of situation who pass the ball back, instead of continuing the run and take a shot on the goal.
-Players in defense keep passing the ball to opposition players for no reason at all.
-Players who are unmarked and have space in front of them, just pass the ball to a marked players instead of pushing forward.
-In contrast, players who are marked and have no where to go, refuse to pass the ball to the close by and unmarked teammate. Even if them teams is playing rare & short passing, this doesn’t make sense.
-Players with low dribble act like the Messi twin.
-One on one situations should usually end up in goal. It doesn’t
-I have seen many offside passes that have been allowed.
-And more…

To stand correct, I assume the reply doesn’t exactly present what “really” happens on the pitch, hence, what we see can be illusive.

Anyway, I think the changes are positive and hopefully more are on the way. And we should not forget all this is possible on the creators personal expenses and spare time.

cheers
D

This is for anybody who wants to help. Besides the list of first and second division teams we’d need images for the team logos (any size and format will do it, we can adjust it…unless you want to do that for us which would be appreciated), name of divisions and national cup. Remember we’d like to have 20 teams per division in all countries in the future, so we’d need 40 teams to make 2 divisions. If the suggested country has less than 20 teams per division it would be necessary to pick some from the third division so we could make it.

I will consider offers for any player at Guimarães, I want to increase player rotation on the team so some players can leave for very cheap prices, take a look!

Exactly Nirabdha, CPU teams don’t deal with loans yet so Davison, unfortunately they will ignore your requests instead of evaluating whether or not to accept it :(

I hate the game engine changes…no, actually despise the changes.

Not one tactic I’ve tried works conclusively. Not one.

Also, having 5 straight divisional ties is not very realistic.
