You all seem to miss one point except Filipe. He’s just using this forum to market his players :). He’s better of saying his goaly has 91.2 stopping power then saying “he’s 86 avarge skill”. It’s simple marketing….
Just like it’s better to say “he’s a rising star for your team”, instead of “I have a player I’m selling because I believe he won’t be that good, so please buy him from me”.
Plus, the added bonus now is that he has established a dialoge with the community. He can now BE SURE everyone has checked that goalkeeper because of the discussion that is going on :). This is called ‘creating awareness’ :), which in his case has an inderect effect on increasing sales :P.
All I have to say about this is, Well done Filipe! You got a true branding strategy going here………Google, Microsoft, Coca Cola, Apple and now Middlesbrough…..:)
Filipe’s formula is correct, when it comes to header you only replace speed with header skill. Control is used to make sure the keepers keep the ball rather than defending it and dribble helps him on one-on-one situations if your team doesn’t have any defenders on -1 or 0, as mentioned by Filipe as well.
Not sure about the real statistics, but they might be accurate due to the way most managers player (focusing on center positions rather than wingers). Of course the way they play is influenced by how the match engine works, in this case it could be our job to make it more interesting to use wingers :-)
It’s nice to see such initiative! I think it would not be that straightforward to officially add it to the game, so I’d rather not do it for now. Especially with all other high priorities such as scout reports, player morale, etc.
Good one, Will!
Maybe it’s easy to setup something like this cause the code is already available, but ofc if it costs to much time don’t do it :)
Dont see the need to have Gabriel or Danilo “wasting” time with this. We can easily organise friendly matches and Will seems available to structure the tournnement. Dont know about the younger too, its not easy to do that and besides all, the teams playinh many competitions will eventually use younger players in this tournment. I can use main team as i only have one league for now :D
have a look at sunderland
I think it was a youth tournament in SS days yeah, but I don’t really want to go through dozens of results every tick to make sure everyone is <21. 8 people so far…might just get it started and see if it grows over the years! I’ll be back with details.
+1

Willing to pay for quality…looking for 93 shooting minimum. Also 88+ sec stats on dribble/control minimum.
Danilo/Gabriel,
Isn’t it possible to ‘copy & paste’ the CL/EL code and make a friendly tournament where people can sign in? Don’t know if that is an easy option :)
i’m in
Back in soccersim day’s it was a youth tournament right? I’m interested if that might be the case :)
ok for me
Count me in :D
+1
I’ve always liked this idea, and we were even thinking of implementing it within RubySoccer. Gabriel was never so sure that it is a nice thing to have :). If we see a lot of people doing it “unofficially”, who knows, we might end up implementing it in the game!
interested
I used to run “friendly” tournaments back in the SoccerSim days. Pretty simple. I make fixtures, you arrange them, play them, and the tournament advances. I make more fixtures etc, until a champion is crowned! Pretty much just for fun, but bragging rights are always sweet, and it adds some depth to your friendlies!
Post in this thread if you’re interested, or if you think it’s a good idea, and if enough people are interested I’ll start up an official tournament thread with a link to the Tourney website (where fixtures, groups, results, top scorers etc will be posted and updated)
If it’s really 5%, it shoudl be changed. See http://www.byfarthegreatestteam.com/posts/stats-scoring-trends-timing-set-pieces-headers-open-play/ : assuming there’s not much difference in effectiveness of headers and shots, in the premier league about 20% are headers.
Hi Danilo,
So far so good this morning. Will report anything if it should occur.
Got it…
Cheers
I dont recall where I learned this but it wasn’t in the wiki… Probably in the announcement topic on the forum (I’ve been here since ever so I’ve seen every anouncement and change made to the game)…
In any case, I believe those are the most important skills for a keeper Miguel (keeping and speed), you speak true about the Header, but it only influences when the keeper tries to stop a heading shot, from my experience those represent less than 5% of the shots made in a match… Drible only influences when you play with defenders in +1 positions, most teams have them on 0 or -1 positions.
I really only care for keeping and speed in a keeper, if he has nice pass and control the better. Pass because he makes a lot of them in the match, control because if he get many shots there’s a chance he lost the ball and suffers a stupid goal. For both skills I consider Mehmet very acceptable (you can see he’s almost 100% accuracy passing and 85 is a very nice control level)
Cheers
so that formula is wrong cause in the wikipedia says that header and dribble has influence for the goalkeeper during the game. so i think you can´t calculate in this manner the keeper skill.
play this game and read the forum. This is common knowledge. I think in this case it’s on the rubysoccer wikipedia page
how do you have access to these “formulas”?
Hank, please let me know if your formation problem still happens. I’ve applied a patch to the code to test (I didn’t have enough time to reproduce your problem locally, but I have my theories)
yeah, this happened bc your browser’s language is set to en-us not en, and for some reason rubysoccer’s fallbacks (we don’t have a specific en-us translation, just en) were not working. try now please – it worked here in firefox, after i applied a small adjustment in the code.
translation missing: en-US.datetime.distance_in_words.about_x_hours where ist should show when the post was made ect
Will have a look. Anyone else experiencing this problem?
