Just came back to delete a post from Davison, for old time’s sake. Hell, it felt great. :D

Seems pretty good. But we love our current hosting – so what I did was to downgrade our current plan. This will mean less expenses to us and I don’t think it will impact much.

Though I don’t know if this is because of the software that has been thoroughly upgraded or bc of the hardware… Our service provider recently gave us a free upgrade on our hardware. Probably both :) But I suspect more software than hardware, in this particular instance.

I’ve always liked this idea, and we were even thinking of implementing it within RubySoccer. Gabriel was never so sure that it is a nice thing to have :). If we see a lot of people doing it “unofficially”, who knows, we might end up implementing it in the game!

Hank, please let me know if your formation problem still happens. I’ve applied a patch to the code to test (I didn’t have enough time to reproduce your problem locally, but I have my theories)

yeah, this happened bc your browser’s language is set to en-us not en, and for some reason rubysoccer’s fallbacks (we don’t have a specific en-us translation, just en) were not working. try now please – it worked here in firefox, after i applied a small adjustment in the code.

Davison, why do you think the forum time posts are bugged?

well, fixed all the bugs found during these initial moments… a full production tick ran successfully as well, so hopefully we’re not going to have too many other problems :) time to go to bed down under, let me know if you find any other issues!

Just put a workaround in place – it should be enough for now, though. The real fix will make the system slightly faster, as the workaround I had to implement was to leave you guys with a fat dev version of the library in place instead of the lighter production version of it.

Yep, already noticed that and know why. For some reason the production env is importing a library twice, and that is breaking stuff. Investigating why right now.

RubySoccer’s Infrastructure & Framework (including JavaScript) have both been upgraded/updated to the latest versions available. This is not a small update, it required a lot of changes and adjustments to several areas. Some bugs may be introduced as a result of this, while many others were fixed. Please report any issues you find, we will ensure those are fixed asap! Some of the highlights:

  1. Mobile devices can now drag and drop players on the field. This should be great specially for those who use an iPad or similar to login
  2. Team/Manager/Player history pagination work better – there were some bugs with that functionality
  3. Sortable lists work better (job applications)
  4. With the new infrastructure/framework, stability & security should be superior (we get all of those fixes in the new versions) and we might also see some performance improvements
  5. A new tick progress bar has been implemented

Make sure you send us your feedback on this new update!

I have invested some time in upgrading the whole framework (not only the javascript) behind rubysoccer. as part of this effort, I’m also upgrading the javascript framework. there’s still a fair amount of work to be done, but the good news is that dragging and dropping seems to be working well on touch devices after the upgrade. My iphone 3gs has an unbearable bad performance and too much lag with the draggable object animations, but my wife’s samsung galaxy s2 works well enough. I don’t have an ipad, but I assume it would work awesomely well in it (I will test). I don’t think there is a point in bothering too much about obsolete phones like mine, as when upgrading I’m trying to cater for the future :)

anyway, I will only put this on the server after I am finished with the whole effort.

I will try changing the javascript framework we use in there for something else, its been a while since our last tech update. That will take a little bit of time, but it may fix the problem.

If i remember the reason correctly, its because of the cookies related to your session as an user. i might do something about that problem in future, but its a very low priority at the moment.

As for the rest of the discussion:

We’ve been planning to add a few more things to the players for a while now. I don’t see this happening bit by bit – when we do it, we are probably going to add everything we are planning at the same time. This may sound a little bit strange, but doing everything at the same time will actually save us some effort, because most of the changes will be in the same parts of the code.

So lets have a look at some things we have had in our minds for a while now (some since 2007):

  1. Star Rating (which will have a chance of affecting the potential performance of the player, depending on the game)
  2. Morale and Personality (which will make players a little bit more difficult to manage and negotiate with, as they will have their own “will”)
  3. A new youth development model, more closely knit with what we think is the real world. This has already been discussed and we have the mathematics of it ready. It is just a matter of implementing it, which I intend to do myself

Those are all things I’ve been planning to do next, as soon as I can spare some time and motivation.

I partially agree with Sly’s comments, because I think RS surpassed MS in most aspects already – even though some of the key aspects were not surpassed YET. One of our main objectives with RS at the moment is to ensure our game surpasses MS in every single aspect. In the light of that objective, who knows what we might do… But we certainly think the economy changes were a very good start – the system is now much easier to manage and changes/adjustments are much simpler to implement as well.

The changes to the players are next, and after that what I had in mind were a refinements to things that are already there: add a few things to the team setup screens, review the game master tools, take the newspaper to the next level, add more achievements and a few more things around it, a simple RS mobile version, etc.

Nope, the rules are exactly the same. What changes is the team situation, the involved scenario. Read Gabriel’s posts explaining the functionality carefully and come back with questions if necessary.
