I have searched for that player – it turns out he plays for the Spainish Primera División side Recreativo Huelva.

What on earth is a Recreativo layer doing being substituted for Norwich City? I don’t mind, particularly, since he is better than any of my real strikers! :)

I haven’t been receiving emails from Ruby Soccer for the last few days. I have checked my settings, and I definitely have the “Send real emails for this dimension” option set to “yes”. I’ve checked my spam filtering, both at my ISP and in my email client – I don’t seem to be getting any emails from the game.

My Team is Norwich City, Medium Ticker, English Premier League.

In the last league game my team played (the first game since setting-up substitution rules) an unknown player was substituted into my team.

I have a substitution rule that says if my team is losing by 1 goal after 80 minues I take off a defender and replace with the “Best Attacker”. In the turn 112 match report the details show that after 80 minutes my defender Gabriel Piñeira was replaced by an attacker called Juan-Pablo Babia. I have no Juan-Pablo Babia in my squad. I have screen shots of my Players list and the Match Report screen:

What on earth is going on!?

That must be it then.

I expect what happened is that when I looked at my Team Players page, the player didn’t have the “Suspended” icon, because the next game was a friendly for which the player wasn’t selected. Does that sound right?

Could we please see Yellow/Red card information for all our players, not just the ones playing the next match?

Sorry, I’m wrong there. In the four matches this season he has picked up 0 injuries but 3 yellow cards. Games followed like this:

1st National Cup:  Yellow Card
2nd League:          Yellow Card
3rd National Cup:  Nothing
4th League:           Yellow Card
5th League:           Did not play

Would the three yellow cards in his first match be enough to earn a suspension for his fifth match?

I certainly don’t remember seeing anything that would make him ineligible for the game.

I’ve just been through the four games he’s played this season, and he has not been injured at all, but has picked up 2 yellow cards. Would that be enough to earn a suspension?

I definately think it would be better for the game engine to substitute injured/suspended attackers with attackers, defenders with defenders etc.

Hi,

My team is Norwich City (England, Division 1) on the Medium Ticker.

In the league game on Turn 24 against Reading, the match report details that I had a 4-5-1 formation. However, I never use 4-5-1, I always use 4-4-2, and I’m sure I specifically went into that match with 2 strikers: V. Fries and G. Amaro. The system seems to have included a midfielder, Hugo Tiago Mota, who I subbed out of my team yesterday, in place of Volker Fries.

My Formations screen shows that for my Default formation I have a 4-4-2 formation – and the only change I’ve made since the match on turn 24 is to swap one defender for another. I haven’t changed the midfield or attackers.

I can’t prove any of the above, so it’ll be easy to say “Oh, you must be mistaken”, but I’m sure there is a problem here.

If there is any auditing or change logging on your database you’ll be able to see that I have only made defensive changes to the Default formation since Turn 24.

I might have missed an announcement, but is it still the case that managers can spend $$$$$ on players wages and have negative finances, or has the game been changed so that bankrupt clubs fire the managers?

In the logic of the actual matches themselves in RubySoccer, does the game engine take Home advantage into account at all giving the Home team a very slight advantage over the Away team? Is there any concept at all of home advantage in the system?

I’ve had a few “404 – unable to display this page” errors today, intermittently, but apart from that it’s been good.

Could you add a “Sent Messages” option to the messages page, so I can keep track of what messages I’ve sent to other managers?

I’ve been making offers for players who are not on the transfer list, and it’s awkward keeping track of which managers I’ve made offers to for which players …

Would it be possible to show, in the player history screen, a view of how the player’s attributes (and $ value) have changed over time?

I’m thinking of a grid where the columns are the attributes (Tackling, Speed, Shooting etc) and each row is a time when an attribute has changed, with the season/turn number. So it might look like a bigger version of:

Player: Matt Barton
Turn        Tk  Sp  Sh  $ value
S1/T1      78  68  54  $250,000
S1/T24    79  68  54  $255,000
S1/T48    79  70  54  $262,000

If the transfer system was slightly less automatic then the managers selling players could veto bids from specific clubs without there needing to be a systemic solution for “boycotting” sales to particular clubs. It would be difficult to implement that in a way that would please 100% of the players.

So how about this? …

When selling a player, the selling manager defines how much he wants to sell the player for. Currently any bids matching this amount are automatically accepted, and the sale can go through without the selling mgame allows the buying manager to make an offer (which could, for example be lower than the seller wants) – the seller can then either accept or reject the offer (or make a counter-offer).

If you didn’t want to completely let go of the idea of automatic bid acceptance, then perhaps the selling manager could tick a box to choose between either automatically accepting all bids that match the asking price (as now), or manually reviewing all bids, regardless of amount.

This might even boost the activity in the market a bid – we’ve all seen the players on the transfer list with huge asking prces – $10m for a player rated as $1.5m for example – that player might even get sold if I was able to offer, say $2m.

This is an example from the Premier League: Premier League Form Table

Only the columns shown there don’t exactly match the columns I suggest above.

I’d like to be able to see an alternative view of the league table that shows teams ranked by thier current “form”. You’d do this by only taking into account the most recent six or eight league games.

Columns to display would be very much the same as the normal league table (Games Played, Won, Drawn, Lost, Goals For, Goals Against, Goal Difference, Points) but also include Points Per Game (so if you use the last six games, and a team has won two, drawn two and lost two of those six games the points per game would be 1.33 (8/6) and the difference in position between the form table and the real league table (for example, if my team was dreadful at the start of the season, but then wins six consecutive games, my real league position might be 15th, but my “form” position might be 1st – therefore the difference would be +14).

The UK newspapers sometimes print these sort of form tables.

Excellent – thanks for adding this. However, could you also add to the drop-down list the ability to select just friendly matches? That way I can easily check that I’m not playing my 1st XI in freindly matches.

It’s only a tiny change, but I think it’d be useful if on the Scheduled Matches screen the user could choose to display friendlies/league/cup/all games.

I’d find it very handy if on the team_matches or match_report screens (or both if possible) I could see the name of whichever of my named formations I used in the match.

My “Reserves” and “Youths” squads often share a number of players, so it can be hard to tell, looking back at past matches, whether I put out the reserve team or the youth team.

In Beta 1, England, Division 2, the “Top Scorer” in the league is with a team playing in Division 1!

The player has scored 16 goals, but when you look at the division 1 table, the team he plays for has only scored 2 goal in total.

The Beta 1 tick was due nearly three hours ago and it’s still “updating”.

The team at the top of my league has played 5 matches and scored 27 goals. It just isn’t realistic.

Has there been a change to the game logic to make scoring in games more likely?

This last turn saw a 13-1 scoreline in my leage (Beta 1, England, Division 2), and the turn before that 10-0 and my own team won 8-0.

I’m not complaining if my team is winning 8-0 lots, but it does seem rather unrealistic – all these high scores. How often does a real team score as many as seven in a game? It might happen once in the Premier League every souple of seasons.

I don’t know if this affects other division, countries or Dimension 2, but in Turn 6 my team played the first match of season 2, and we won 3-0 (I have the email – “Subject: Match Result – Hull City 3 × 0 Burnley”. However, if you look at the division’s fixture list – http://www.rubysoccer.com/game/league_matches/2?league=4 – the turn 6 results are all blank, and even the fixtures are not what they were before – it says that in Turn 6 Hull should have played Crystal Palace, not Burnley as actually happened yesterday.

Also, if you look at the league table – http://www.rubysoccer.com/game/list_teams/2?league=4 – it shows that each team has played two matches (tuens 6 and 9), even though the scores, results and fixtures for turn 6 have changed.

Can someone tell me what times of the day game ticks occur, and what is the relationship between ticks and turns? When in real-life are “turns”?

Thanks.
