I agree that match replay is not that important and we could generate the results based on other factors without having to simulate the whole thing as we do now. Even though it would mean a complete re-engineering of the engine I’m inclined to do that rather than adjust the current one. If that means more realistic results and statistics I’m all for it.
I’m not too sure about your real life DB of results suggestion, BK. I’d rather do calculations based on the players and strategies during the match and come up with a reasonable score and statistics based solely on that. I could even use real friendlies from FT and MT to test a new engine once it’s done…hmmm.
Some comments for you 4 questions, BK:
1) It’s more lack of motivation than lack of time at the moment…that should change in a month or so. I’m speaking for myself on this one, Danilo still has the lack of time issue.
2) A reset would be nice but I’d rather do it with less countries (to have more managers on the same leagues) and with some new feature. New countries would be re-introduced slowly.
3) I am, hopefully that won’t change
4) Still not sure about that…I kinda like it but I want to fix other things first (such as the match engine)
Cheers
Thanks for your thoughts Berhan. I know you told us so and we could certainly see it coming, but some habits are hard to change. Anyway, on to the interesting stuff.
As usual you are giving some crazy ideas, most of them in a good sense. Points 1 to 5 are really great and in-line with what I’ve been thinking. To be honest I haven’t done any research on what we need to remove in terms of club names, logos, etc so that we are not infringing any copyrights.
The cards idea is very radical and would fundamentally change the mechanics of transfers and the economy in general as well as introduce some interesting management and random events concepts. I’m a conservative person and would probably do some “fixes” to the current state of things before going through this more radical path, but I have to say I like the sound of it. The game needs a reset and that would be a good time to introduce innovative concepts.
Cheers
Thanks everyone for the opinions so far, let’s keep it going. Just to make it clear, getting rid of real club names is just a consequence of going freemium (if we do that) due to licencing issues, not something we simply want to do. Summary of what has been said so far:
-match algorithm needs improvement: GK too important, real-life formations can’t be used as too much happens in the center of the field
-youth generation algorithm needs improvement: smaller countries should have a better chance of having good youths
-bonus performance for fielding homegrown players
-player market: allow proposals to non-listed players
-economy: budget reset every season is not a good thing, bring back team money concept and improve departments
Cheers
I think it is clear to everyone at the moment that something drastic must be done with the game to put it back on track. We’re missing two main things at the moment: time and motivation. There’s only so much we can do about lack of time, we won’t compromise work and family to work on the game, but when we do have free time we need motivation to spend a few hours on RubySoccer every now and then.
With that in mind, one of the possibilities is moving RubySoccer to a freemium model where the game would remain free-to-play but managers would be able to make in-game purchases to either unlock more features or gain some kind of benefit. By doing this we would have to get rid of real life club and competition names which in my opinion is a very nice feature. How would everyone feel about that?
Even without real life club names I’d like to keep the structure of countries, national leagues and cups and international competitions. The difference would be that each manager would them create his/her own club and join a particular country. Let’s not worry about the specific mechanics of that right now.
I have some more ideas to discuss but I think I’ve said enough to get this started.
Cheers
I have to say I feel a bit encouraged to do something about the game at the moment. I know the pay to play is probably the way to go, or maybe a freemium model. In order to move towards this we would have to change some basic stuff about the game, like real club and tournament names. Even if we do that I’d like to keep the same structure: countries with fixed divisions, a national cup, two international competitions and club world cup.
How would everyone feel about losing real-life clubs? Maybe I should start a topic about this…
Sad to see you leave Smithers, but I understand your reasons. Davison is harsh as usual but of course he has a point. Shutting down the game has been considered a few months ago, but we decided to keep it alive for the sake of the players and, who knows, we could get excited to work on it again. It seems some people still enjoy playing RubySoccer, when that’s not true any more we might as well shut it down and save some money.
Cheers

English: Rui explains he was not cheating and not even hiding the fact the other account was his (given the same surname), simply had a separate user because he’s addicted to the game and wanted to have more play time. He also questions why it is considered cheating to have another user and questions our detection methods. I told him I believe him and explained the decision to not allow multiple users was simply to make it easier to manage these situations by simply forbidding it rather than having to analyse in a case by case basis.
Vou despedi-lo do Sporting.
Obrigado

English: Lince and Scatola argued something should be done with Rui’s user, not only the duplicate. Given it’s not the first time he creates secondary accounts I’ll fire him from Sporting as punishment.

English: Rui Reis had a second user, Tiago Reis, who I just banned.
Correct, stamina doesn’t count for national squad matches. Not sure how he could have vanished from your team. As you mentioned once the competitions start the selection changes are locked :-/
Well done Jorge :-)
Hopefully it won’t take 50 seasons before this happens again!
I’m still here, occasionally. Pretty much nothing has been done in the past 7 months. Life priorities are complicated :-(
That’s weird. I have to admit that when I was last managing a team I didn’t watch the replays so I’m not sure that happened with my strategies. We’ll have to test it again and make sure the sub player is indeed taking the new position rather than sticking to the old one.
I won’t rule that out, even though I still believe match replay is just not accurate enough. Another thing I should point out is that our referees are coded to make mistakes sometimes, both ways.
In your example player X will use the newly specified position once he enters the match, zone A side C and mentality -1. The previous player position on zone D, side C and mentality 1 will be empty. If there is no player on the specified position no substitution is going to happen.
You lose points if your total performance + money left was worse than in the previous season, you gain extra points if it was better. When I say performance I mean finishing position in each competition (if you didn’t join a competition you simply get 0 points from that), the league being the main contributor (all teams on div 2 get less points from the league than teams on div 1). Oh, I should also mention that the country ranking interferes with the total points a team gets.
I bet that’s an issue with the way we present the match replay, not the match engine itself. The match replay contains snapshots of every 10 seconds of the match. Between one snapshot and the other the players must have run towards each other and one tackled the other.

I have to say I like all of your suggestions…with the exception of maybe #6…I’m a selfish bastard!
Maybe both need a reset. At least Medium seems to have more managers than Fast now, usually it was the opposite.
Hahaha, right on the spot :-D
Some clarifications.
1) Investment points are won based on your finishing position in the competitions you participated (regardless of board expectations). Bear in mind that participating in the secondary continental competition provides less point than participating of the top continental competition (and similarly not participating in any international competitions give you even less points).
2) From one season to another the full amount of points you have is always recalculated. Imagine this as if all your investment areas were reduced to zero, points calculated for the new season and then automatically invested to match the levels you previously had, if possible. After this automatic process any remaining points are displayed as available.
3) The points from money left are combined with the points from competitions performance, so there is no way to know how many points you’ve got from each. If after the automatic process described above you see lower investment levels it just means the points calculated for the current season were less than in the previous season.
4) I understand the pain of losing money, that was an attempt to control the inflation that was happening in the game. Maybe a better solution would be an economy reset, but again, some people would always feel in disadvantage…unless we stated in advace how many seasons would be played until a reset…hmmmm.
Hope this helps.
Cheers
Hi Mauro,
Sorry for taking so long to reply, I’ll send you a message in-game with that delete mail content.

I remember that option from SS, shouldn’t be hard to implement. I’m kinda of ashamed of saying things are not hard to implement but never actually implementing them! Now at least I have an excuse, I’m going to have a baby in a few months and there are lots of things to do in order to be ready for that ;-)
That’s exactly why national squad matches do not improve players, to prevent managers from picking their players on purpose ;-)
In addition to that, players improve more on international matches (Champions League, Europa League, Libertadores and Sudamericana) than in national leagues and cups, and less in friendlies.
