When I’m trying to drag the players, I believe that placing players too close to each other is not allowed, so I spent the last 20 minutes trying to configure a 3-4-3 with two wingbacks and a sweeper, behind; two side midfielders + one attacking midfielder + one defensive midfielder – in the midle; and two wingers and a striker, forward. With this field configuration, that’s absolutely impossible, every time I drag someone, the other disappears, and I always have nine players on the lineup.
I have the same problem as I wanted to use 3-4-3 with AM and DM. It is impossible right now
least you got a team…… :’(
There is a good explanation on how formation screen works on http://www.rubysoccer.com/mediawiki/index.php/Screen:Formations . But basically the field is divided in squares and you can only put players on those squares. 3-4-3 is totally possible, maybe not exactly the way you are imagining, but for sure with a lot of variations (off or def player positions).
The field is 9×5, from those you have 15 different positions, 5 for each zone (def, mid, atk), and each of those positions has 3 mentalities (def, normal, off). Putting two defenders on the same column but on different lines is not possible, as it corresponds to the same position, but with different mentalities. Hope that helps.
Well ive spent 4 hours trying to validate my formation and still it wont work. Ive read the help guide but it makes no difference. I think im gonna give up because its not worth the hassle.
Northstar,
jsut so you know, there doesn’t appear to be any input for who you want in as a sub.
As such, make sure only one keeper is on the field in the GK box.
after that, make sure you have 10 players total for offense, mid and defense. i had errors like yours cause i kept on putting two keepers in. hope this helps.
Northstar, don’t give up! We can give you a better explanation if you need ;-)
You really need to sort this out, we don´t have a problem bounding to the areas of the pitch, but you guys really need to design de area squares on the pitch, because the way is it now, one keeps switching players unvoluntarely as we try to adapt formations.
If we can see the boundaries of each area it would be a great help, I think this one is kind of high priority.
I took one hour and a half too make my squad, and I´m sure I only did it because I have big experience in this kind of games.
Also please adress to Ricardo Costa´s issues about the tactic saving, he´s issues are very important for optimized game play.
Regards.
P.S Northstar, if you need help, just ask, don´t quit, this is beta testing man…
when we were developing the formations screen we were aware of the many problems that you guys would come up with. but we had a lot of things to implement, so we decided to go on and come back on this screen later. this is one of the most important screens on the game, be sure we will work all its problems out, but we depend on you guys to do so, with suggestions and fingers pointed.
if you think about the flexibility that the idea we had can give the manager (when everything is well explained and working ok), you may cheer up a little bit :).
I decided to give you a small taste of how this game can improve (or just change) fast.
I will upload some new stuff for the formations screen shortly. Please give us your feedback on that. (is that better than before?)
It’s a little bit better, but still need some improvement, for instance, I couldnt setup 4 midfield players to play 3-4-3, had to go for 4-3-3, and I’m still not happy with defenders position, there’s a big space in the middle in order to put 4 defensive players…
Worked for me, I was able to make a 3-5-2 tactic with DM and AM, problem is that I get a hole at the middle, but maybe it isn´t important for the match engine.
The grid you uploaded help a lot, but is still almost impossible to conciliate some positions, IE: Anchor+MC, AM+Striker at A, mentality 0, etc.
It´s your turn to send us feedback and tell us how that will be managed by the game engine, and i´m referring to the space amongst the 2 central DC´S as well, even if I don´t use 4 defenders, and this problem doesn´t aply to me.
I guess we have to work it out and make sure the whole in the middle of the defenders won’t affect the team during the match.
Ok, after another half an hour ive finally managed to validate my formation. However the whole setting up of your formation is still very user unfriendly and takes far too long to do. Part of the problem is not being able to see the boundaries for each square on the pitch like Artur said earlier.
Hasn’t Danilo fixed that boundaries problem?
yes, i have. note that i used dotted gray on the squares, because i wanted to the field to be the most visible element on the picture. i could use another color and make it VERY visible, but i wonder what would the users think about that.
Northstar, the idea here is: we tried to come up with something a little bit more flexible than managersim´s defensive/offensive formations. With our idea, each player can have a different off/def mentality! I think that is a very nice change. But if the experience shows me that I am wrong, we will not hesitate to re-design that screen.
Please note that we do not have formation strategies yet, and I think that this may be what is generating the whole confusion. Those will enable the manager to modify the formation on different situations (ball possession / no ball possession, for example) and etc.
We don’t jhave strategies except for those on the right (passing style, shooting distance, and so on).
I like the mentality bit of the formation screen. I think it offers something different. Could the positional changes you make however be seen without having to keep refreshing the page to see them? Lighter colours could also be good because at present everything is rather dark.
Just wondering what version of IE/Firefox you are using Northstar? I am using FF 2.0.0.6 and it works fine for me
Im using IE 6. I can see the grey lines but its still dark and hard to see.
going to log in ising IE and see if I can help out
ahhh yeah- the colours do need to be tweaked- very difficult to delineate between the boxes…
remember that in future we will tweak the entire site for IE, but right now we cant guarantee anything to work on IE. in fact , things are pretty messed up on it (alignments, formation screen…). Northstar, anything against FF?
think he mentioned he was using a work laptop that wouldn’t allow him to install FF……8-)
Well i havent got Firefox so i’ll just muddle through until uve tweeked things for IE.
maybe its old age guys but i can place even one player on the pitch lmao
been trying for half an hour and cant get any player to stay on the pitch when i drag him there, even by the hair lol.
any help would be nice guys.
best wishes
Stephen Woodhead
Are you using Internet Explorer? Cause our drag and drop screen works very poorly on IE. Try it on Firefox. About the positions, we have 5 available positions for each zone (D, M, A), each of these positions has 3 mentalities (defensive, normal and offensive). You can have only one player at a specific position, even if you try to put another one in a different mentality (different row for the same column in the zone), the previous one will be removed.
I don’t know, maybe I confused you even more :D
Check our wiki, hope you’ll find the answers there: http://www.rubysoccer.com/mediawiki/index.php/Ruby_Soccer
i just cant manage to do a 3-4-3 each time i put a offensive midfielder the defensive one disapears and vice-versa also i had to use a defensive sweeper formation because the defender kept going out. i know this is just beta but it must be improved, can anyone see the squares ? i cant.
im using ie…… isnt there anyway that it might work in ie?
finally managed , a hint is to position your DM not in the centre a little to the left or right
